I'M LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON THE USE OF THE 47 IN VIET NAM.   I WAS TOLD BY AN INDIVIDUAL THAT AROUND CAM RAHN BAY HE SAW A 47 SPRAYING AGENT ORANGE, THIS IS HIGHLY DOUBTFUL, SINCE HUEYS WERE USED FOR THAT, AND GIVEN THE PAYLOAD OF THE 47, SUPPOSEDLY CARRING A BARREL OF CHEMICAL ON EACH ON EACH SIDE OF THE AIRCRAFT,.. FIRST THE WEIGHT FULL BARRELS, THE THE BOOM, ETC.PLUS THE KNOWHOW TO MOUNT BARRELS AND RIG PUMP AND BOOM, DOESN'T SEEM LIKELY THE ARMY WOULD KNOW HOW TO DO THAT.

THE HUEY USED A SYSTEM BUILT BY AGRINAUTICS OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA. I COULD SEE THE 47 MAYBE?? SPRAYING FOR MESQUITOES, BECAUSE OF THE LOW VOLUME OF LIQUID NEEDED TO CARRY,
BUT NOT HERBICIDE, EVEN THOUGH THE ARMY DID NOT USE A CARRIER, JUST SPRAYED PURE QUILL..

S O AFTER ALL THIS INFORMATION, I'M HOPING TO FIND AN EX ARMY PILOT THAT FLEW OR KNOWS HOW IT WAS USED IN VIET NAM. THE H-23 HILLER WAS USED FOR ARTILLERY SPOTTERS, USUALLY FLOWN BY ARTILLERY OFFICERS, AND OTHER TRANSPORT OF INDIVIDUALS .

I JUST DON'T THINK THE INDIVIDUALS  CLAIM IS LEGIT( SAID BARRELS WERE ORANGE IN COLOR) MAYBE THINKING ORANGE BARRELS WOULD ADD  CREDENCE TO HIS "OBSERVATION".

I SPRAYED WITH 47'S IN THE CiVILIAN WORLD SO KNOW WHAT THERE CAPACITY IS AS FAR AS HOW MUCH THEY CAN CARRY.

HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME WITH SOME VALID INFORMATION.

A local company makes the wall plaque in the photo. It is precision cut from heavy gauge steel, then powder coated, mounted on a heavy gauge steel backing with standoffs giving it a 3 dimensional look. The detail they reproduced in it is incredible. The plaque is over 3 feet long and 16" tall, weighs about 20 lbs.

You can specify what color you would like - so it would match your helicopter.

Joey;

The Niagara Aerospace Museum and the L D Bell Museum are working together to restore a 1955 Bell Model 47H-1, N966B that was Larry Bell's last personal helicopter upon his death in 1956. The L D Bell Museum restoration team is nearing completion but lacking a few components.

Could you please send a messgae to the membership with an appeal for assistance. The components will only be used for static display, we do not require airworthy components. We are hoping to have the helicopter in it's restored condition on display at HAI 2007.

The main components required are a set of skids and cross tubes. The landing gear components are the same as used of the Bell 47J model. We can also use curved cross tubes for a 47G-5 that can be modified for our purposes. I will enclose a listing of the actual component part numbers at the end of the email.

I addition, we are also looking for a set of un-airworthy rotor blades, wood or metal and a main rotor shaft, gimbal ring, grips, or M/R head assembly. Please note that all items can be used as a tax deductible donation to the museum.

If anyone has any material they are interested in donating to the project, please have them contact the following:

The Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum is seeking a Bell 47 to be used in an indoor scenic environment representing medical evacuation situations of the Korea conflict. A helicopter of the proper model and already configured in MASH markings is ideal but any aircraft will be considered. The museum has a limited budget for the purchase and modifications of this aircraft and donations or a partial donation/purchase agreement may be possible. A long term loan agreement, though not ideal to our desires, will also be considered. Contact information:

Need engine basket for Bell 47 D1 ASAP!!!!!.

UPDATE: THANKS B47HA FOR HELPING ME FIND WHAT I NEED. I AM FLYING.

NEW STYLE T/R FOR D1

Thank you for speaking with me today about installing a new style tail rotor on a Bell 47 D1. As I mentioned I have conferred with Bell on this and they sent us a letter of no technical objection however since the D1 was never  included in the tail rotor modification approval by the FAA the installation would require a 337 and field approval which most likely these days would not be forthcoming without a DER study providing further data. So the question is: has anyone out there put a new style tail rotor on a D1 through the 337 process and if so would they be willing to share some information with us? We are confident that it can be done easily as on the G model through the appropriate service instructions, it is the legal aspect that we are looking for some existing data on.

Thank you for your help.   Ben Magro Coastal Helicopters Inc. Belfast Maine 207 338 3755

IMPORTANT UPDATE AND SPECIAL THANKS TO B47HA FOR HELP IN FINDING PART.

Dear Joey,

Thank you for your help. James was very helpful and it turns out that his ship does have a properly documented and certified new style tail rotor system. He was agreeable to send me a copy of his 337 form documenting the same. This will greatly help us when we file our 337 for our installation because the FAA is very strict about field approvals without supporting data acceptable to the administrator. Service Instruction 438 provides 90% of the data needed however there are a few airframe changes required on the D1 that are not part of 438. Our FAA POI told us that if we could find a D1 that had an approved 337 for TR modification it would greatly assist in a more rapid approval process. This is a great example of the good that you are doing for the Bell47 community and again I thank you.

Sincerely, Ben Magro Coastal Helicopters   www.950b.com        and     www.benmagrophoto.com

Hi,

I would like to know if you can help me with locating a Bell Helicopter (47) that was shot down in Korea, July 14, 1952. I was assigned to the 8th U.S. Army, X corps, 5th Light Air Section from September 1951 through March 1953. The tail number of the helicopter was "12454". The Department of the Army records Claim they do not have any records about this helicopter, in fact they do not have any records of the 5th Light Air Section of X corps, U.S. 8th Army.

I was an observer when it was shot down in the Punch Bowl Mts in N. Korea on July 14, 1953 around 9:10 AM. If you can give me any information or direct me to who can give me info, I would be very grateful. Thank You.
